Higher Education Partnership for Sustainability (HEPS)

The first sustainability reporting system for higher education has been developed for the HE sector by Forum for the Future and the universities and colleges in the Higher Education Partnership for Sustainability (HEPS).

Since 2000, 18 universities and colleges across the UK have been working together in a pioneering partnership with Forum for the Future to implement sustainable development into their curriculum, operations and community relations.

A key result of this work has been the sustainability reporting system (HEPS RT) developed by Ethical Media to o enable HEIs to monitor, assess and plan their sustainability performance.  HEPS RT provides  a set of sustainability indicators, but uniquely,  allows users to create their own performance indicators to develop a true sustainability profile of the institution. The tool also allows for anonymous comparison with other institutions.

This innovative tool was developed using Macromedia Flash to enable real time visual feedback and intuitive representation of changes made to sustainability data by each HEI.

If your institution would also like to trial HEPS RT please contact Heloise Buckland at hepsrt@forumforthefuture.org.uk.
