Knowledge Management

"Ethical Media grasped the complexity of our organisational aims and communications objectives for the website quickly and effectively, helping us to develop a functional and professional site. Their developmental approach to knowledge management, incorporating communications and stakeholder feedback, has added real value to the process.

We have also been impressed by their capacity-building philosophy, and providing high calibre training that has enhanced our ability to create more powerful content."

Jane Scott, London Sustainability Exchange

Introduction

Effective use of knowledge can enhance organisational performance and promote staff creativity. Our knowledge management review looks at ways of improving how you manage knowledge in four areas:

  • Selecting and accessing knowledge
  • Presenting and sharing ideas and information
  • Endorsing and storing knowledge
  • Monitoring and managing how knowledge is used.

The review is based on Ethical Media's iterative approach to knowledge management.

This approach is about working with existing systems to engage staff and stakeholders in improving your performance.

Review Process

Knowledge Management Audit

We spend half a day looking at your existing systems to establish how you are currently managing you knowledge. This will involve looking at your information sharing systems – like e-mail etc and also your databases.  Critical to this is your taxonomy – the way you name your documents.  We also conduct interviews with 4 or 5 staff to give a range of perspectives about how your staff use knowledge - and how things could be improved.

Workshop

We then spend a few hours developing a presentation for a group of 5-7 key decision makers on:

  • our initial findings about how you are currently using knowledge
  • how you could improve your knowledge management. This covers changes in the use of existing software and processes already in house but also the benefits of other approaches for the longer term.
  • We then work with you to develop a 6 month action plan for how you are can improve your use of knowledge.

Knowledge Management Report

Following the workshop we produce a report detailing our findings, with suggested ways forward and rationale for changes and an action plan to make it all happen.
